I work in a burnishing technique with the colored pencil. It involves using the white color pencil to change values and hues. Ink is done in several ways: stippling (small dots), hatching (parallel lines), strokes (lines spaced in short or long ways). Scratchboard is created with the use of an Exacto knife, carving out areas to make different values.
I am an Illinois native and a graduate of Illinois Central College, with an Associates Degree in Graphic Design. I served two years as President of the Illinois Art League and founded the Colored Pencil Group. Since I moved to Transylvania County in Brevard, NC, I have become a founding member of the former Land of Waterfalls Art Gallery in Cedar Mountain, NC. I draw inspiration for my subjects from the woods that surround my mountain home.
