Sharyn has been depicting Western North Carolina with her watercolors for over 40 years, and has no plans to slow down. Misty mountains, old barns, Queen Anne’s Lace, and waterfalls are just a few of her favorite subjects. She uses many different weights of watercolor paper, and never tires of trying new paints, brushes, and surfaces.Sharyn Misenheimer Fogel was born here in the Brevard area, along with her father and grandfather before her. Her roots run deep.
Sharyn attended Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, FL, UNC-Asheville, and Brevard College. Over the years, she has participated in many workshops with individual teachers including Joe Miller, Tony Couch, Daniel Greene, Sue Russell, Herbie Rose, Dean Davis, Eileen Fabian, Michael Del Priore, and David R. Smith and studied with Roman and Constantine Chatov in Atlanta, GA.
She is a member and past president of the Transylvania Art Guild and the Watercolor Society of NC. In 2013 she won 1st Place in the state with her painting, “Grandpa’s House” and also 1st Place in the Land of Waterfalls SilverArts Best of Show: Watercolor.
She now resides in Brevard with her husband Tad, her granddaughter Summer, and two dogs. She will keep painting as long as she can hold a brush!
